Mongiello Prestige Series Type III 19" Ride (1715g)

$ 350.00

Here's a chance to grab an affordable original cymbal crafted by an independent maker.  Mike Mongiello creates cymbals from Turkish B20 blanks in Philadelphia.  This one would go for $649.00 new.

The condition is excellent.  Expect minor cosmetic signs of use such as stick marks, fingerprints, and light scratches and stains, but I'd describe it as lightly played.  Actual diameter is just over 19-1/4".

Here's what Mongiello says about the Type III Ride:

"Modeled after several examples of older Turkish cymbals with exaggerated cups, these rides have a 'ghostly' bell sound and full low body, while maintaining the woody stick attitude of the rest of the series."

And about the Prestige Series in general:

"The Prestige Series is an homage to the prized cymbals manufactured in Turkey from the 1930s to the 1970s, particularly the 'Old Stamp' models, which were made between the early 1930s and the late 1950s.

"These special instruments are forged completely by hand from bell to bow before layers of lathing, surface abrasion and burnishing treatments, and an all-natural patina coating. This creates a cymbal with extraordinary stick, low tone, mellow wash, and a 'played-in' feel ... with looks to match!

"The series was developed over the course of two years of research and exhaustive prototyping with input from bop drummer, educator, and vintage cymbal historian Dr. Eric Binder.

"Rather than 'clone' a specific instrument, dozens of examples of 'old K' cymbals were examined for their tone and shape, and our favorite attributes were borrowed and combined into models that capture the spirit of these sought after gems.

"A true labor of love, each piece requires nearly a week of work, and the result is a canvas as unique as they artists who play them."
